Sweet Raspberry Morning Buns

Well.  Here we are.  A month into 2016 and here’s what I have to show for it:

  1. I learned that you can remove gel nail polish at home on your own.  You don’t HAVE to fall into the trap of “oh I need to go into get this polish removed…so while I’m there I should probs just get them re-done”…but that will probably still happen.
  2. We have a surplus of dips at our apartment because Super Bowl.  Want to come eat chips and dip with us?
  3. I bought a new planner, and to make myself feel more accomplished I write down things I can easily check off.  Not quite to the point of “brush teeth” as a check box, but we’re getting there.
  4. We’re adjusting to grocery shopping for both of us slowly but surely.  It is shocking the amount of broccoli and brussel sprouts we eat, mostly because we eat roasted vegetables all the time all the time for every meal.

PB&J…from scratch

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to write this post.  A few weeks ago, my college roommate Sarah was in town visiting.  Even though it took us awhile to figure out some of our other daily activities (sometimes a challenge to choose an summer activity in Texas that does not involve heatstroke), we obvs knew for sure that we would be baking something.  (more…)

Light Wheat Bread

I would like to start out by addressing the accusations from Hannah’s previous post (that I am crazy). In response, I just say, is it really more crazy to do an hour of yoga in a hot room than to run THIRTEEN MILES in a row… for FUN?! Think about it…

Now that that is out of the way. Y’all, I’m starting to think finals are coming up.

I’m not just saying this because I want to scare you or because I want to be ridiculous.

No. Finals coming up is a nightmare. And believe me, I’m trying to ignore it. But the signs are cropping up everywhere.

Cinnamon-Pecan Filled King Cake

Well, we finally stopped procrastinating and changed our About page.  Go look!  You can learn some fun facts about Kate!  (My facts are still the same.  Boring.  Gloss over those.)  We are still searching for an acceptable picture of us that was taken post-2009, which we can hopefully create when I go VISIT Kate in AUSTIN in MARCH.

Now.  On to the cake.  I made king cake last year, and I believe I explicitly said “I know I’ll use this recipe again next year.”  False.  So false.  However, I also said last year that I’m a fan of king cake filling.  Not the fruit kind, and not the explicitly cream cheese kind (related to my dislike of cheesecake OMG don’t hate me), but the cinnamon-y, praline-y kind.  I’ve been on a lifelong journey for how to make such a filling.  (more…)
