Pumpkin Cake with Almond Butter Frosting

Let’s just state the obvious and get that out of the way.  I love science.  And learning.

But.  That being said, there are some things that I would prefer remain a mystery.  Things I hope no one ever explains to me.  I’m putting this list out there in public to avoid the same devastation I experienced upon learning that baby carrots are not, in fact, tiny carrots that grow with tiny carrot tops on a tiny carrot farm. Sweet and Salty Cake

Hellooo miz lady.

That is a line from Stepbrothers.  If I could, I would speak only in movie quotes.  Perhaps one day when I’m feeling extra bored, I’ll write an entire post in movie quotes.  Hmmmmm.  Challenge accepted.  (For a future date.)

There are more important things going on right now though.  The Weatherman is 25!  Twenty.  Five.  I keep telling him he is super old…but let’s face it: first, that’s not actually old, and second, I’ll be 23 and 1/2 in 46 days which is not really THAT much younger than 25.

Tuscaloosa Tollhouse Pie Bars

Well hello there.  You look like you could use some pie.  Specifically, some pie that has a buttery, flaky crust.  With chocolate chips in the filling.  And whiskey…there should defs be whiskey in this pie.

I think I have the solution.  How about some Tuscaloosa Tollhouse Pie, courtesy of Baked: New Frontiers in Baking?  I think you’d prefer it in bar form, especially if, like me, you have to bring something to a potluck at work.  In order to make it in bar form, we’re going to use a shortbread crust…still from Baked…I mean, I trust those guys, so might as well stick to their recipes. Puppies and Baked Bars

My puppy came to visit last week!

Baby Halo

By came to visit, I mean I basically kidnapped her from my family in Dallas and brought her home with me for the week.  And by puppy, I mean she’s 5 years old, and we still treat her like a baby.  And a human.  Her name is Halo…not after the video game, but after my brother Taylor’s mommy-given nickname.  (more…)

The Epically Legendary Baked Brownie

Living in the South/Texas definitely has its perks when it comes to eating.  We have things like lemon icebox pie, shrimp and grits, and crawfish boils.  We have fried chicken (siiiiiigh the only thing I miss as a veg), crazy delish biscuits, and roughly 11,364 people who claim that their mac and cheese is the best.  Also, Paula Deen.  And Tex-Mex.  We do not, however, have a bakery by the name of Baked that has inspired a cult following.  That bakery is in Brooklyn, and I am here in Wichita Falls.

Now.  Let’s focus on what’s important here.  You may or may not have heard about the brownies that they make at this place.  (more…)
