Oh hello! Welcome to Fleur-De-Licious! This is the number 1 blog in the world written by a med student (Hannah) and a lawyer (Kate) who are the best of friends. (Yes, we did a poll. We are the best in that category. It’s science.) We met during our freshman year of high school, where we immediately bonded over our intense loves for peanut butter, Costco sheet cakes, and certain bands. Sadly we went to opposite coasts for college, but now we’re both in Dallas, and we watch a fair amount of bad TV and eat a fair amount of excellent food together. We are not very adult-like, so sometimes instead of studying/doing laundry/grocery shopping, we bake and write about it on here.
Stuff about Hannah: I like to bake, a little because it makes my apartment smell nice, a lot because it makes other people smile, but mostly – let’s face it – because it means I get to lick the bowl/spatula/mixer. Cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes, breads, muffins, etc….you name it, I’ll bake it. I’m slightly addicted to peanut butter. I demand large amounts of frosting on my cupcakes. I believe sprinkles make almost anything more attractive. I also love to cook. Sometimes I like to pretend I’m a crunchy granola kid and make things like barley. I eat a lot of green things too.
I started this blog during my year off between undergrad and medical school, when I had more time on my hands than I ever had or will have in my life! Now, it takes 2 of us to keep it up, but I’m having so much fun with it. Other things: I like to play, and watch, golf. (Yes, I know you think watching golf is like watching grass grow.) I like to run outside; I dislike treadmills. I like to do pilates. I’m a nerd, and I absolutely love medical school. Diet Coke is very important to me, but not as important as the two 4-year-old puppies that I sometimes kidnap from my mom. Oh, and what’s the deal with Fleur-De-Licious? That’s me trying to be clever with fleur-de-lys. I grew up in Texas, but I was born in New Orleans. I’m a Saints fan, I love shrimp po-boys and chicory in my coffee, and I appreciate bars that don’t have last call.
Stuff about Kate: Like Hannah, I spend a lot of my time collecting recipes, daydreaming about kitchen appliances, and watching the Food Network. While I’ve always been a baker of sorts, I became the baker I am now (translate: a compulsive baker) when I started law school. Apparently, in grad school, you need a hobby to keep from going crazy. For me, that was baking. Partly this had to do with my love for cookie dough and cupcakes. Partly it had to do with the excuse to take a few hours and do absolutely anything but read words on pages. Good thing for you and me, Hannah noticed the intensity of my habit and decided she needed a blogging buddy when she started med school. Enter me. On this blog.
Here’s the part where I tell you factoids. I love the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars. Baseball and hockey are generally awesome as well. Hot yoga is probably my healthiest addiction. Yes, I do yoga in a 99 degree room voluntarily. No, I’m not in a cult (maybe). Yes, I would rather be in a 99 degree room for an hour than run. Ever. I drink too much coffee and Diet Coke. I blame law school for this right now, but I’m going to need a new excuse in a year. I’m a borderline cat-lady. I can’t help it that my cat Kirby is the best, funniest, smartest being I know (sorry boyfriend). Speaking of boyfriends, I’m dating an Accountant. Oh, and sometimes, I bake cinnamon bread instead of lighting a candle to make my apartment smell better.
