This morning when I woke up it was 56 degrees. Fahrenheit. And I had to snuggle real hard under the blanket and it smelled like fall and a little bit of last night’s rain outside. It made me so very happy and ready for more. (more…)
Here’s a thing that no one tells you about summers in your midtwenties/summers when you’re an actual working adult: they are so busy! I actually spent four weekends away from home at the beginning of this summer. The Accountant hasn’t been home in over five weeks at this point.
What I’m trying to say is that it’s almost August and I don’t really understand how that happened because yesterday it was May I swear.
If you can’t tell, I’m kind of flying by the seat of my pants right now. You know what helps me feel in control and capable?
I’ve realized important two things.
First, I don’t eat enough bagels. From a health standpoint, I’m sure I eat enough bagels. There’s probably not a daily recommended allowance of bagels, although there should be, and it should be 5. When I got home from the hospital Sunday morning, I stood in front of my fridge for far too long, trying to figure out why I didn’t want to eat anything that was inside (aside from the fact that there’s basically just eggs and string cheese in there). Spring (slash really it’s just Summer-Lite in Texas) is here!
The Accountant and I have already had to turn on our A/C. Because apparently our apartment doesn’t believe in insulation. The weather outside is the weather inside.
Anyway, even though spring/summer brings things like heat and AC and sweating, it also brings super awesome things like baseball and sundresses and fruit pies and like one week of weather where you can do activities outside and bluebonnets.
The funny thing about becoming a physician is that people never stop asking what you want to be when you grow up. It’s a normal question in high school and college – everyone gets it. Then you get to medical school, and you think, “Finally here! I’m gonna be a DOCTOR when I grow up.”
Whew. What a title, right?!
I made this cake for my old Roomz and another good friend from law school after they reminded me that it had been a really long time since they had eaten anything “Kate baked.” So, like, maybe I went overboard trying to impress them is what I’m trying to say…
Isn’t it weird how things happen like that, though? You spend three years seeing a person every day and sharing fridge space and borrowing eggs and telling each other to “PLEASE EAT SOME OF THOSE COOKIES SO I DON’T EAT THREE DOZEN BY MYSELF.” And then, one day, you stop doing that. And suddenly, it’s been six months since your old Roomz has eaten anything you’ve baked.
Ugh, change. Amirite?!
There are a LOT of things on my to-do list and practically none of them involve studying. (By practically none I mean…one of them is studying.)
I need to paint my nails in the spirit of Valentine’s Day. I spent >30 minutes at CVS tonight choosing the PERFECT sparkly pink nail polish. Also buying new mascara (other tube only has 75% left, clearly need more) and trying not to buy candy because obvi it will be on sale in 2 days.
